DIY Sparkly Cone Trees
November 13, 2013 • Christmas, crafts, DIY
I made the sparky tree cones and they are adorable. I started with this as my inspiration, but my diy side once again said, No do not buy those over priced things, you can make them. And, make them I did.
Here is the ones from Home Goods around $25 for the tall one and not much cheaper for the smaller ones, and you really need 3 to have a nice full look.
Heres what I came up with for around $12 using a 50% Michaels coupon.
I used a sequin fabric which was very thin and gave me just the sparkle I was wanting.
Here are the supplies you will need to make your own sparkly decor trees.
Fabric- I got 2 yards but only used maybe a yard
Paper mache cones from Michaels, mine vary in height but you can do what ever you like.
Mod Podge
A foam brush
Primer or paint the color of your fabric- I know mine says automobile primer, this is what I get when I send my 14 year old to the paint cabinet to grab for me. It works though, so hey on we move.
Give your cones a coat, this is to mask the brown from coming thru on my thin fabric. It really depends on what color or type of fabric you use, mine was thin and you could see thru it. I didn't want the brown to show, show I painted.
Now lay your fabric design side down and slowly roll the cone to get a pattern.
Cover the cone with mod podge and slowly roll fabric back around the cone.
These were easy to make. I think my colors for Christmas this year will be silver and red, so these will work great.
Stayed tuned for more Christmas crafts, soon I will showing you what I do with the giant Magnolia tree in my yard.
Keep on Sparkling!!

Sparkly DIY Tree decor coming soon
November 12, 2013
I was in my local Home Goods Store recently and I fell in love with a version of these sparkly cone tree thingys. Sorry not sure of the official name but, thats what I am calling them. They were too pricey for my blood and only to used at Christmas, I think not.
Coming Soon...... I made my own set of three, for wayyyyyyy less than a year at a top rate college.
They seem to be in most of the stores that I run thru for inspiration, so I will show you how to make your own.
See you soon.

Happy Birthday to the Queen!
November 7, 2013 • girl time, party
No, I am not celebrating the Queen of England's birthday cause I have now idea when it is, Today I am celebrating mine(The Queen of my Castle). I turn 46 years old today. If I knew getting old was this fun, I would have done this a long time ago. So, this weekend I am off to a winery with my girlfriends, I will blog about it later and to have dinner in the kitchen, yes in the kitchen of my fav Italian restaurant. Oh I also have to work today and pick up kids and cook dinner and do all that other normal Mom stuff, But I will do it with a little extra sparkle and pep in my step.
Happy Birthday to me!!!
Happy Birthday to me!!!
Rainbow loom bandwagon
November 5, 2013 • Crafty, girl time, Rainbow Looms
I think I am a crafty person, I mean when I walk in a craft store I feel right at home and confident that I can handle most any craft. But that was until I got my 8 year old the Rainbow Loom kit. You know that they are all the rage right now. I think they may last as long as beanie babies or silly bands but while they are hot, we are jumping on the wagon and making some.
I bought the kit a Michaels and you can't use your coupon for these so out the door it's going to run you around $16. The kit comes with the loom, a mixture of rainbow color little rubber bands and a hook thingy, oh and instructions(if you can call them that).
I tried several times over several days to make a simple bracelet without success. Finally, I turn to trusty You Tube and found 2 girls who explain it in perfect English and within 1 minute I had a cute one on my arm.
I thought if I am having trouble maybe others are too so follow the link and make a bunch for friends, family. This video is clear, slow and very helpful. Link at bottom of page. Here are the ones I turned out in just a few short minutes, actually 3 mins because my daughter timed me, I don't know why.

Hope you enjoy designing all the colors of the rainbow.

I made this one to match a dress I am wearing Saturday night to my birthday dinner.
